Imagine waking up one day and realizing the world is nothing like the one you went to sleep in. Your eyes can’t help but see the Monsters on the fringes of the natural world, eyes that ignored the signs only hours before. Evil is real, and you are charged with keeping the balance between two warring factions in the supernatural: those who corrupt the supernatural, and those who purify the supernatural. For the Hunters, this is the world they now live in, and it fundamentally changes a person’s view of what is normal.
For the most part, Hunters are focused on the Daemons, the creatures who are the most corrupt. These are the creatures the Hunters were created to take out in the first place, and that instinct continues to drive them. However, anything with origins that strike an individual Hunter as corrupt or evil is fundamentally tied with the ‘bad’ side of the supernatural. And many Hunters, if not most, take it upon themselves to destroy that which is bad.
There is a fundamental distrust of the corrupt and evil in the supernatural, and that which is shady. So, it isn’t that everything supernatural is wrong and must be destroyed, the Hunters are just focused more on the bad aspects and destroying them so the natural world can continue, no longer bothered by the supernatural trying to take over.
The mission of the Hunters, then, is more than just fighting Daemons— it is to keep a balance between the two aspects of the supernatural, which they accomplish by tacking out anything that threatens the natural world. And as only things that corrupt the supernatural threaten the natural world, they focus on those things, much more than, say, the task of finding the Purity Princess.
However…. anything with a shady origin, then, is distrustful, because you don’t know what side of the supernatural divide the object, or person, is. As the Jinn are partial-daemons, most Hunters believe they cannot be trusted and must be destroyed. Some Hunters might take the same approach to the Guardians, particularly if they do not have a clear understanding of the Geldon Kingdom yet.
Daemons: The Enemy of a Hunter
Some might call it a compulsion, others an urge, but at the core of any Hunter is a sense they need to be to slaying daemons. As with any urge, however, it can be ignored and suppressed. Thus, not every Hunter is consumed by the instinct to kill Daemons, but at some level, every Hunter is affected by this instinct. And the desire only strengthens as one grows closer to a daemon.
The Faen infused this instinct into the original Hunters, and as with the ability to wield magic, has been passed down to Modern Hunters.
A Note on Seals:
Seals have a shady, uncertain origin. You never know what is inside a seal, and that ignorance, coupled with the unclear purpose of who did this supernatural binding and for what reason, make many Hunters very suspicious of seals.
Therefore, it is common for Hunters to be motivated to crack and destroy seals, under the incorrect assumption that seals are evil and must be destroyed.
