Getting Started
How to join the game
A lot of games have a fairly tedious application process. Our process is fairly simple: fill out the character sheet and get it approved on the forums. Piece of cake! We're a pretty easy going bunch of writers and artists, so the majority of the applications will get through.
There are three things we look for to approve an application: an understanding of how Kingdom's magic works, a grasp of the setting, and the ability to write coherently and well. As hunting plays a significant role in logs, we require applicants explain how their character's magic works, even if they haven't fully awakened at the time they are introduced into the game. If your character belongs to a specific aptitude, such as a Mage, you are required to explain how their aptitude-specific abilities manifest. We understand the need to develop characters as they interact with the game, so you are always welcome to further elaborate and expand upon their abilities as the characters grow, but we need to be able to tell you understand how the abilities work before we can accept your character.
Wait a second, You might be thinking to yourself, why isn't there any requirements about the characters themselves? Well, we snuck that one by you, because we believe that in order to write well, you need to have a strong character foundation to work from. At Kingdom, we love characters in all shapes and archetypes, and we recognize that some characters require time and logs to further develop. But in order to develop that character, we believe that you need to have a strong foundation to work from. On occasion we might make suggestions to develop the character more or to clarify an inconsistency we might have noticed. Please realize we are not rejecting your character, merely asking for more <3
... Unless your character is Naruto dimension hopping to beat up some daemons. ^.^;;
What everyone in the game loves to see in applications are interesting approaches, be it to the characters themselves, their magical abilities, or both. We love people taking a chance on something new! And we understand that with such a broad cast, minor overlaps are bound to occur. However, if your character is starting to look like a carbon copy of one of the cast, we might wonder if you've read the character profiles ^.^;;
If you have any questions, please feel free to visit us on the forums. We love helping people, and welcome everyone to the party!
If you are applying for a Hunter:
Somewhere in a hunter's lineage is a refugee from the Geldon Kingdom (which makes sense, as any character in Kingdom that can use magic has at least one Geld ancestor). Since the Geldon Kingdom fell, bands of hunters have been roaming the world, taking out daemons and on occasion other supernatural threats.
Sunset City has always drawn daemons, thanks to possessing several Geld seals and an abnormally high population of folks with Geld bloodlines. Even before the Spaniards came, several bands of hunters roamed the area. In the late forties, however, the hunters killed off so many daemons that it took fifty years for more hunters to awaken. Because of this generational gap, very few of the local hunters awakened with any idea of what was happening to them.
Faction Specific Information
- All About Hunters, an introduction page that should address any questions applicants might have about the faction
- The Hunter Aptitudes, because not all hunters use magic the same way.
- How Magic Works, which is pretty self explanatory.
- Don't Forget About The Relics, because not all weapons are created equal.
- Lets Make A Band, since not everyone actually goes on hunts with Mara. Shocking, I know!
If you are applying for a Jinn:
As the Geldon Kingdom fell, ancient and powerful daemons were drawn to the crumbling island kingdom. Hundreds of hunters were slain by these creatures, but not all the victims died. Some found themselves infected by the daemons, struggling to hold their minds against daemon possession.
Unable to push the daemon taint from their bodies, these unfortunate souls found themselves irrevocably changed. No two suffered the same transformation, each turning into something new and horrific.
The Jinn Bloodlines were born.
As the hunters roamed the earth after the fall of the Gelds, so too did the Jinn. While most of their children are born normal, there is a taint in their bloodline that can awaken their true nature. For centuries most have hidden in the shadows. But with the purity seal broken, they are coming.
Some of them are closer than you'd think.
Faction Specific Information
- Are they human or something... else?, an introduction page that should address any questions applicants might have about the Jinn
- The Known Bloodlines, all Jinn are not created equal.
- The Gathering, group hierarchy? I can haz it. Or something.
If you are applying for a Guardian:
Thirty three Gelds gathered to protect the vessel that could destroy or save their kingdom. They allowed themselves to be changed, their magic augmented by beastly power, all to serve their princess. Unfortunately for those women, their charge was not the savior they had hoped for, and their land was soon lost. Some died as the kingdom fell, but most settled amongst regular humans, sealing their powers into their bloodline so that one day their descendants would wake to their duty, when the Purity line needed protection once more.
Hopefully this time, Brian and Rae will be the saviors the original Guardians had sacrificed everything for.
Thanks to a seal cracking in August of 2008, the guardian bloodlines have awoken. A handful of hunters in Sunset City find themselves unable to weld magic-- unless they assume a beastly form. Together, they must unravel the mysteries surrounding their new forms and find those they must protect, the heirs of the purity princess, before the daemons find them first.
Faction Specific Information:
- introduction page for the Guardians.
- totem power!
- their mission, should they choose to accept it.
