The better to clear up confusion (and maybe get s'more Jinn characters, heh heh), the most basic explanation of Jinn is this: they are human-daemon symbionts.
Hapless innocents who are possessed by daemons or seedlings wind up under their control. Jinn are different: they are either fully autonomous, or have blended mentally with their daemon somehow; in either case, they are not oblivious, like victims of possession.
Copypasta follows:
Ren 54m4: my understanding is that [Jinn] are descendants (usually) of Geldons who assimilated daemons
Ren 54m4: tho 'assimilated' isn't really the word i want
Ren 54m4: more like, they were possessed, but kept their own minds? or worked out a deal such that the human got cool wicked powers, and the daemon got a host body
Ren 54m4: they can reproduce, but only within a mortal timespan. their offspring will inherit the daemon, or its offspring, however that works, but if there's immortality in the bloodline, it doesn't extend to the baby-making bits
Ren 54m4: of course, very old and powerful Jinn would have other ways of simply infecting others with their daemon, without passing on the DNA. hence contagious werewolfism, vampirism, other
Ren 54m4: my Jinn's a vampire, but can only make other vampires from people with some Geldon heritage. everyone else she infects is just her thrall [because they are daemon-possessed, in effect].
